Membrane skeleton: How to build a molecular shock absorber
نویسنده
چکیده
The human red blood cell is a remarkable transport system, perfectly suited to its task. Its cargo, hemoglobin, is carried effortlessly throughout the body, where it is serves as a molecular shuttle for oxygen and other gases. Although the red blood cell is not itself motile, it leads a very dynamic existence in the circulatory system. During the course of its travels it must be durable enough to withstand the turbulent environment of the vasculature without losing its cargo; but it must also be pliant enough to squeeze through narrow passages of the microvasculature, often distorting in ways that a contortionist would admire.

Design and Analysis of Graded Honeycomb Shock Absorber for Increasing the Safety of Passengers in Armored Vehicles Exposed to Mine Explosion
Protecting armored vehicles from mine explosion can lead to the survival of thousands of people exposed to this risk. Very purpose, shock absorbers such as honeycomb structures can be applied for crashworthiness improvement. In this study, graded honeycomb structure is primarily introduced as a shock absorber, followed by the introduction of its absorbed energy and the force and acceleration ap...
متن کاملNumerical and Analytical Investigation in Radiated Noise by a Shock-Absorber
In this article, the radiated noise by a shock-absorber is studied. This particular shock-absorber is used in a heavy-gauge shearing line in order to stop the cut steel sheets. Three steps are followed to evaluate the propagated sound in the surroundings; first of all, the plate vibration response is specified after the impact. Secondly, the edges of the plate are substituted by a set of the mo...
متن کاملConceptual Design of Single-Acting Oleo-Pneumatic Shock Absorber in Landing Gear with Combined Method
Landing gear is a structure that is mounted under the fuselage and helps the aircraft in takeoffs and landings. The most important duty of landing gear is the control of vibration exerted on the system through the shock absorber which is a common component to all the landing gear. Considering the importance of this issue, the necessity of investigating shock absorber with features such as high ...
متن کاملThe nuclear envelope lamina network has elasticity and a compressibility limit suggestive of a molecular shock absorber.
Mechanical properties of the nuclear envelope have implications for cell and nuclear architecture as well as gene regulation. Using isolated Xenopus oocyte nuclei, we have established swelling conditions that separate the intact nuclear envelope (membranes, pore complexes and underlying lamin filament network) from nucleoplasm and the majority of chromatin. Swelling proves reversible with addit...

This paper describes third aircraft model with 2 degrees of freedom. The aim of this study is to develop a mathematical model for investigation of adoptable landing gear vibration behavior and to design Proportional Integration Derivative (PID) classical techniques for control of active hydraulic nonlinear actuator. The parameters of controller and suspension system are adjusted according to be...
